Another Day of Crazy Winding Roads.......Arriving in Padstow without a Scratch!

Having lost the momentum of writing each day about our travels, it becomes more and more difficult to fill in the details.  Today is Wednesday and the blog description here is for Sunday.  It was not that long ago, but the day to day transitions here are tough to capture.  That's probably a good reason why we put these blogs together.......if we can't keep our stories clear from day to day now, there is no help for the future without having these 'journals' to rely on.  It is amazing how helpful a few photographs are!

Just getting organized here.......this was crazy day.......and there will be lots of photos.  We hated to leave Gidleigh Park, as it was clearly one of the most unique places we have ever stayed.  The trip today was to make it down to Padstow for the night.  We had heard about Padstow as a new 'foody' center for Cornwall and were looking forward to experiencing some of the local seafood.  Along the way we had a planned visit to Port Issac.  For anyone familiar with the PBS series of Doc Martin......this is where it all takes place!

The morning drive c

ontinued with the relentless narrow roads and 'high blood pressure' driving.  Andrea and I make a good combo.  She runs the navigation side of the car while I do the driving.  Google Maps is a life saver.  It took a while to get it synced between our phones and the car display monitor, but we mastered the 'pairing' and it has been critical to everything we do in terms of directions.  Andrea is great on following the monitor map and keeping up with the alerts for road navigation.  We change roads every 5 or 10 minutes so that making the right turns is essential.  Yet even with the stress, we fully understand that visiting the countryside the way we do would never be possible without our own car.

This starts with a few morning shots of Gidleigh.  We had a chance for an amazing walk before breakfast.......in order to work up an appetite!  We also need to burn off a few calories as we are clearly gaining some pounds!

What a wonderful.......if not exhausting.......day of travel.  The landscape, scenery and views were amazing today, and the food this evening was more than we had expected.  Also more than expected were the continuation of totally crazy roads today!  This is a crazy situation that almost has no escape.  The fact that we have not yet scraped into another car or a stone wall is rather amazing!
